Ok

yes, the promised update. sorry cos last nite was too tiring, talking with jefferson on msn. want to know what were we talking about? ask jefferson. lol. apparently we were discussing habits, and other er what do you called tat.. er preferences? aiya. skip.

ytd warren, jefferson and penghau pon GP!! lucky got ronald and jeffery sit beside me during lesson. hard to believe but unbelievably so, the lesson wasnt as boring as i tot it was going to be. zhiyong was like er suaned? not really, this teacher just likes to ka-chiao ppl. esp me and my row. -.- oh. why was they absent from GP? cos they went to NJC for some engineering fair, which i have no idea what it was about.
then MEP also fun. VECTORS. eh seriously it was fun. to see all the funny qn like so nice la. all cannot do. then binghan sit beside me wah very cham sia.. no offence. not as bad as sitting beside warren. warren asks stupid qns. then tiangyun sit in front of me and i double GG. XP starting of lecture OCC came inside the LT walk walk around and then asked me..
OCC: jefferson leh?
ty: at njc..~
OCC: huh? ['no wad' face LOL]
[exits OCC, murmuring]: ...put him in band 4...
tats all for ytd stuff. today even more random. woke up at 5.05am and turned on laptop, went in facebook and went to check luck. today's luck percentage:
LOL today's friday the 13th!! [i only realised it this morning in sch] ironic sia. but actually quite true cos nothing much happened to me. gonna list out all the lucky things tat happened later at nite. meanwhile i shall tell you how warren got owned by ms tan during geog lesson today.. XD
warren: [takes picture of slide and start writing things]
ms tan: [to warren] eh i tot you say you take picture already?

can smell?

warren: so if you lose/cut your nose, then you cannot smell ah?
rephrase: can smell?

actual answer: YES!! [omg shocked]
reason: sense of smell is dependent on olfactory receptors, located at the nasal cavity. if one loses the nose, and the receptors in the nasal cavity is (hopefully) unharmed, then the person still can have the sense of smell, though it'll be a less sensitive sense.

the nose funnels air (and smells) toward receptor neurons,*which sit behind the face and near the front of the brain. You can't really damage this odor-sensing area by slicing off cartilage. More likely, cutting off someone's nose will affect their breathing, which in turn affects their ability to smell. The front of the nose has two main functions: It guides airflow and filters out dust and other large particles. The nostrils direct incoming breaths up and over turbinates located behind the nose. These turbinates secrete moisture to humidify the air before it reaches the receptors. At the same time, particles get stuck in nasal mucus before dripping or getting sneezed out. Without a nose, you'd end up inhaling more dry, dusty air—which makes Saturday's nasal severance especially cruel, given Afghanistan's arid climate.

16 / 7 / 2010

maybe one should really appreciate the availability of seats in the MRT cos at the peak hours, you should be happy at the fact that you still have some space to stand. since i hvnt taken the train at peak hours for such a long time, along with the morning sun shining through the windows of the train, it was getting very unbearable to be in the train..

since we didnt know which direction to travel, the 3 people with me and myself had no choice but to wait for another friend to pick us up. so much for going to tiong bahru to take bus to walk for 5mins. though we were supposed late, it did not result in any consequence. anyway CMPB had this very small but deep locker to keep our handphones. and then began the medical testing.
1. photo taking with uniform on
- nth special
2. urine test
- lol i was reading the instructions on the door and then it opened and a guy came out and said
"just go in and pee la"
- lol my urine spilled out of the container
- but i got the stick dipped anyway
- lol i think the other guy filled the container full cos he was like "oh f---!"
3.blood test
- woah this station is the most fun one
- though the medic sitting there was supposed to be distracting me from the blood collection, he was talking to the other medic who was supposed to be distracting the other enlistee!!
- anyway i enjoyed[?] looking at the blood collection!! ^^ omg it was damn nice [huh?]
ok la maybe as a bio student, i appreciate such things better than others.
- i still have a question: why did they take 1 vial of blood from penghau and weikeng, 2 vials of blood from binghan and jefferson, but only took 1.5 vial of blood from me!! so random~
- lol despite gab saying it's quite painful, i dun really think it is. i just thought there was a minor acute sensation and then no more liao. just see the crimson coloured liquid flow inside to the vial..
- so maybe there's pain, but it's definitely worth it LOL
4-7. hearing, eyesight, dental, x-ray
- these parts are very boring with nothing much to mention~
- wth i have to go back to redo the ecg again -.-
- then again, it means i can skip another day of lesson!
9. height and weight
10. blood pressure
11. genitals check? >.<
- so called one of the highlights of the checkup of many people [including urine test, blood test, vocation test]
- so ya. this also nth much
11. vocation test
- damn long list of questions to do!!
- number pattern is very difficult XP
- the language part also very funny

after a long debate after waiting for binghan to finish the vocation test, the whole group went to vivo city to LJS -.- regretted buying the fish wrap - had too much of the white tartar/mayo sauce and then it tasted funny altogether. penghau bought a small bottle of jellybeans while i bought KitKat dark cholocate.

so after tat i come home to slack lol. anyway my dish in cafe world hasnt expired yet! then tried to complete some of the maple quests. had dinner and is busy typing his post.
so if my schedule is still on, tml i will go to the library to do work. maybe CLT? and then eat the dark chocolate ^^ i probably should start doing PQ
so on sunday i'll do chem planning qns.

since the checkup has already ended, the countdown timer is acting as a stopwatch now, counting the time passed since 9am this morning. i'll change it if i got any other events to countdown towards

Random Fact

There is a certain gene in the jellyfish which when inserted into plant cells will cause the plant to turn bluish when stressed. Such plants can now tell us when they are "stressed"! The stressed plants produce a bluish glow when they absorb toxic substances such as peroxide. This is made possible through a transfer of genes from jellyfish to the plants. If you received such genes from the jellyfish, do you think you would glow in the examination hall?

glowing jellyfish:

Chapter 16: Heredity

Mendel's First Law:
The Law of Segregation states that when any individual produces gametes, the copies of a gene separate, so that each gamete receives only one copy.

Gene - small segment in the chromosome where specific genetic information is stored.

Allele - different forms of a gene occupying the same relative positions on a pair of homologous chromosomes.

Phenotype - trait that can be seen

Genotype - combination of genes in an organism

Homozygous - two alleles controlling the trait are the same

Heterozygous - two alleles controlling the trait are different

Dominant allele - expresses itself and gives the same phenotype in both homozygous and heterozygous conditions.

Recessive allele - does not express itself in the heterozygous condition, and only expresses itself in the homozygous condition (tt).

Chapter 4: Nutrients

Hydrolysis/Hydrolytic reaction is a reaction in which a water molecule is needed to break up a complex molecule into smaller molecules.
Condensation reaction is a chemical reaction in which two molecules are joined together to form a larger molecule with the removal of a one molecule of water.

Ans to the Jellyfish qns

this is a summary of the questions jefferson asked. the one who claims to abhor biology,
who just so happens to have immense interest in the human anatomy with regards to the reproductive system!!

1. How do you know whether a girl is a virgin or not? (actually LWC qns with jefferson's kind contribution of an answer)
rephrase: how to test for girl's virginity =P
jeff's answer(from his father, which is actually quite stupid la):
test: guy have sex with the girl.
observations: the virgin will bleed - and after this sex, she not virgin liao wth =.=
non-virgin will not produce blood.
THE REAL ANSWER: there is no ABSOLUTE test for virginity.
A woman's hymen can be broken or eroded by masturbation and also a number of nonsexual activities, including horseback riding, gymnastics and physical labor. Furthermore, as with most bodily features, the natural appearance of the hymen will vary from one person to the next; it is even possible for a female to be born without a hymen. Thus, the lack of a hymen is not necessarily an indicator that a woman is not a virgin.

2. Why is a man unable to get "excited" again after ejaculation? by jeff (EH this one is u ask de wad!! no meh.. o_O)
ans: An increased infusion of the hormone oxytocin during ejaculation is believed to be chiefly responsible for the refractory period and the amount by which oxytocin is increased may affect the length of each refractory period.
Another chemical which is considered to be responsible for this effect is prolactin, which represses dopamine, which is responsible for sexual arousal.

3. Why does one not urinate during ejaculation? o_O by jeff -- this one confirm u ask de
Prior to ejaculation, the internal sphincter closes the opening between the bladder and the urethra. It does not relax and open again until ejaculation is completed. This prevents urine from entering the urethra during ejaculation while also preventing ejaculatory fluid from flowing back into the urinary bladder.
